A man on a mission – meet Jonny Sands, a truly inclusive sports coach
Are community activities always truly accessible for all young people? If their needs or backgrounds are more complex, does every coach or session leader feel comfortable and confident supporting them to join in and have fun too?
Jonny Sands is the Founder and Owner of Kickstarterz Sports – a company doing just that. He and his team of coaches deliver a whole host of sport and physical activity sessions for children in his local community, including at Buddle Venues partner school Atherton High School in Greater Manchester.
Pre-school children are a key demographic for Jonny and his team, as well as those with specific requirements who can’t always access mainstream activities. “Being from the local area, inclusion is a big focus of all our sessions” Jonny told us. “From children with ADHD or autism to others with physical disabilities, we make sure they can all join in and even offer reduced rates during the week to make sure finance isn’t a barrier for local families as well”.
“Atherton High is a really well managed site. It’s central within the local area and the set-up with the sports hall and carpark are ideal for what we need”.
At their peak Kickstarterz delivered activities to over 450 children per week and – while lockdown has no doubt been tough – Jonny and his team can’t wait to start hiring their community venues so they can grow their classes once again.
“Buddle Venues have been fantastic. Communication about my bookings and any changes over Covid-19 have always been passed on to me quickly and I’ve already recommended the venue to people I know in the area”.
We’re hugely proud to serve local community providers like Kickstarterz alongside our partner venues and can’t wait to welcome them back after lockdown.
